[Kyodo News, March 21st]The Japan Meteorological Agency announced on the 20th that cherry blossoms (variety of Somei Yoshino) in the central area of Tokyo were opened. The flowering time is 6 days later than last year and 4 days earlier than normal. It is expected to bloom in the next 1 week to 10 days, ushering in the best viewing period.

At about 2 pm on the 20th, the staff of the Tokyo Metropolitan Meteorological Observatory confirmed that 10 flowers were blooming on the specimen tree of the Yasukuni Shrine (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), which exceeded the flowering judgment standard. According to the Meteorological Observatory, the process of waking up the buds of cherry blossoms in winter and breaking their dormancy is very smooth. It is said that there are more days when the temperature warms up in March, which promotes flowering.

“Somei Yoshino” bloomed first in Fukuoka City on the 17th. Blossoms have also been observed in Miyazaki and Kochi cities so far. (over)
