Six people were killed and at least 31 hospitalized after a shooting en route to a 4th of July party parade in the affluent suburb of Highland Park in Chicago’s northern suburbs.
The police are looking for a white man between 18 and 20 years old with long black hair. A law enforcement officer said at a press conference. Authorities have urged the local population to stay in a safe place while the search for the man continues. “He is armed and therefore dangerous,” they said.
According to some witnesses, the bomber was on the roof of a shop and from there he fired into the crowd.
The shooting comes after 19 children and two teachers were killed at an elementary school in Uvalde, Texas on May 24, and after the May 14 attack that killed 10 people at a grocery store in Buffalo.
Tension is also high in other parts of the United States. The city of Akron, Ohio, declared a state of emergency, imposing a curfew and canceling the fireworks on July 4th – American Independence Day – after protests on Sunday evening over the killing by eight police officers. 25-year-old African American Jayland Walker, of whom the police released a shock video.
