Chile celebrates, former protest leader Boric elected new president

SANTIAGO DEL CHILE – From the streets of Santiago de Chile we celebrate: the Social Democrat Gabriel Boric is the new president of the country. The 35-year-old, who emerged as a political figure during the 2011 student riots, was elected deputy in 2014 and will be the youngest president in the country’s history. The ultra-right candidate Jose Antonio Kast he admitted defeat and outside Boric’s headquarters the screams grow louder as citizens begin to fill the streets to celebrate the result.
