Coronavirus in the world, infections in the US explode: + 300% compared to last year

Coronavirus cases in the United States in the past week have increased by 300% from the week of August 31-September 7 last year. This is what emerges from the data of John Hopkins University. In the week from 30 August to 6 September 2021, in fact, the infections recorded were 1.14 million, while they were 287,235 in this period in 2020.

Fighting AIDS, from Covid ‘devastating impact’

Covid has had a “devastating impact” in the fight against AIDS, but also malaria and tuberculosis in 2020. This is confirmed by the annual repot of the Global Fund. There have in fact been “significant drops” in HIV testing and prevention services. Compared to 2019, explains Peter Sands, executive director of the Fund, the decrease in treatments is 11% in the last year, and for tests by 22%.
Even in the fight against tuberculosis, the pandemic has played a “catastrophic” role, causing the number of people treated in countries where the Fund is present to drop by 19%. For malaria, the decreases in treatment were less significant.

In Brazil 13 thousand new cases, pressure drops

In Brazil, one of the countries most affected by the pandemic, yesterday there were 361 new deaths from Covid 19, and the total deaths rose to 584,171. Also yesterday, there were 13,645 new cases of contagion, for a total of 20,913,578. The data confirm a deceleration of the contagion in the South American country which, together with the United States and India, is one of the three nations most affected by Covid 19. According to data from the Ministry of Health, 65% of the Brazilian population received the first dose of the vaccine, and 31 , 5% also the second.
