New York City will ask all municipal workers to be vaccinated against the coronavirus before schools reopen in mid-September or to undergo weekly tests: the New York Times anticipates the announcement of Mayor Bill de Blasio. Last week the announcement of a similar obligation for public health workers, part of an effort to speed up vaccinations as the city faces a third wave of cases due to the spread of the Delta variant.

There are about 340,000 workers in the city, including teachers and police officers. Nearly five million New Yorkers have received at least one dose of the vaccine, but the speed of vaccinations has slowed. Two million adults are not yet vaccinated. And the number of infections has risen to more than 800 on average per day, more than triple the daily average at the end of June.
