Covid, record in Russia: more than a thousand deaths in 24 hours

MOSCOW – For the first time there Russia has exceeded a thousand deaths from Covid in 24 hours. The health authorities reported this, specifying that there were 1,002. Cases of coronavirus infected also hit the record, with 33,208.

The latest deaths have brought the total deaths due to the pandemic in the country to 222,315. The official number of infected since the beginning of the spread of the virus is 7,958,384. However, these would be far lower figures than the unofficial ones.

Only the 31% of the inhabitants of Russia has completed the vaccination course. Health restrictions remain limited, but many regions have introduced the obligation to show the vaccination pass to enter public places.

Worried not to harm the economy, the Kremlin is avoiding imposing too rigid measures nationwide. “Our task is to find the right means between breaking the chain of infections and maintaining the conditions to allow the economy to run and people to earn,” said the spokesman for Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov. The standard of living of the Russians has dropped since 2014 and with it the consensus towards the authorities.
