Covid, United Airlines has laid off 593 no vax employees

by admin

The American airline United Airlines will fire the 593 employees who refused to comply with the vaccination obligation against Covid-19.

US President Joe Biden announced on 9 September that companies with more than 100 workers would be required to require vaccinations from their workers. The company therefore decided to proceed in this direction by firing no vax employees. In addition, 2,000 employees – said United Airlines – have requested a medical or religious exemption: equal to about 3% of the 67,000 employees.

The federal obligation imposed by Biden will cover up to 100 million Americans, private sector employees as well as federal healthcare professionals and contractors with the aim of increasing the percentage of the American population vaccinated.

For the 593 employees who did not provide proof of vaccination, the company will then initiate a layoff process under a negotiated procedure with the unions. “It was an incredibly difficult decision, but ensuring the safety of our team has always been our priority,” said United Airlines.

Initially, the company planned to place employees who were granted an exemption on unpaid leave. But with a legal procedure underway initiated by the workers who have been denied the exemption, these people remain in the company for the moment until October 15 pending a decision.
