The Kerala government said that on the 19th, the Idukki dam will be opened for flood discharge, because the state’s largest reservoir has rapidly risen after heavy rains. The state government has issued an alert to the downstream area of the Idukki dam and has begun to evacuate families who may be affected by the flash flood. In addition, two other dams will release floods.
The Indian Meteorological Department predicts that from October 20, there will be three consecutive days of heavy rainfall.
