Dead migrants in the crowd in Melilla. Algeria condemns Morocco for “carnage”

Algeria strongly condemned what it called a “massacre of migrants in Melilla”, for which Morocco is responsible, calling for the opening of an independent investigation. He affirms it today Ammar Bellani, special envoy of the Algerian Foreign Ministry for the Maghreb and Western Sahara, quoted by local media.

For the Algerian official “the images of this carnage are extremely shocking”, they “provide information on the extreme brutality and the disproportionate use of force that is similar, under the circumstances, to real summary executions”.

Bellani accused the Kingdom of Morocco of being responsible for this tragedy that shocked the whole world. “International bodies and in particular the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees must conduct independent and transparent investigations to determine accountability and shed light on these tragic events,” concluded Bellani.

The official toll of the Moroccan authorities speaks of 18 dead and 63 injured among migrants and more than 140 injured among law enforcement agents, but according to Spanish NGOs, the migrants who died in the crowd on Friday trying to enter the Spanish enclave would be 27 .
