Jerusalem. In the past two weeks, Russia has become more like the Soviet Union than it has ever been in the past thirty years. This was stated by a man who was closely acquainted with the oppression of the dictatorship and its cruelty, the Soviet dissident and Israeli politician Natan Sharansky. Seventy-three years old, Sharansky in Ukraine was born in Donetsk, the main center of that Donbas region for years de facto under Russian control and the scene of a prolonged war defined as “low intensity” but which caused thousands of deaths.
