[NTDTV, Beijing, March 05, 2022]The CCP has always played a “neutral” position on the issue of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and has repeatedly abstained from voting on resolutions condemning Russia. But when the United Nations International Atomic Energy Agency voted to condemn Russia, China voted against it.
The governing board of the United Nations’ nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), voted on Thursday (March 3) to pass a resolution condemning Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing two diplomats. Hand over all its nuclear facilities to Ukrainian control.
After Russia invaded Ukraine, it has repeatedly publicly mentioned nuclear weapons, suspected of threatening the use of nuclear bombs.
According to Reuters, when the IAEA board voted, a total of 26 countries voted in favor, 5 abstained and 2 were absent.
Only two countries voted against it, China and Russia.
In addition, the countries abstaining were Pakistan, India, South Africa, Senegal and Vietnam, and Mexico and Burundi were absent.
Previously, when the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly voted to condemn Russia, the Chinese Communist Party abstained from voting.
The above votes, whether the CCP abstained or opposed, did not affect the voting results. But the IAEA’s vote was the first time that the CCP turned from abstention to opposition.
After Russia invaded Ukraine, although the CCP supported Russia with practical actions, under the pressure of public opinion in the international community, it has been striving to play a “neutral” role in official occasions.
