(Nettavisen) Økokrim is investigating whether the former managing director of Norsk Industri has committed gross financial infidelity by imposing unjustified costs on the employers’ organisation.

– Based on the information received, there are reasonable grounds to investigate whether there is a criminal offence. An important part of Økokrim’s mandate is to investigate suspected irregularities committed by leading figures in Norwegian society, says Økokrim’s first public prosecutor, Bård Thorsen, according to a press release.

Norsk Industri says in a press release that they have taken Økokrim’s decision to investigate the case related to Stein Lier-Hansen’s extensive use of the organization’s representation funds for information.

Norsk Industri says they will assist Økokrim in the further work to the extent that there is a need for it.

The case that is shaking Norsk Industri concerns the director treating his contacts with hunting trips for several million kroner over several years, without the board’s knowledge. It was E24 that revealed extensive use of cabins and hunting grounds on Hardangervidda with seaplane transport to and from.

The hunting trips came for one day in the autumn, without anything punishable being uncovered. At that time, Lier-Hansen quit his job. It then turned out that Lier-Hansen’s disposal of the organisation’s funds was more extensive than first thought. In February, the board of Norsk Industri decided to initiate an internal investigation into the matter.
