Ethiopia: The Tigray Liberation Front controls the new region and the government accuses it of killing civilians | Sudan News

The Ethiopian Tigray Liberation Front stated that its military advances in the neighboring regions of Amhara and Afar were aimed at ending the siege of the area and protecting civilians. The Ethiopian authorities accused the front of killing 240 people. Civilians, and a demonstration against the Liberation Front and supporting the Ethiopian army took place in Addis Ababa.

According to a statement, the Tigray Liberation Front stated in a statement that it is committed to complying with the rules of international conflict, respecting the Geneva Conventions, and taking all necessary precautions to protect civilians and infrastructure.

In the same statement, the front did not comment on the Ethiopian authorities’ allegations of killing civilians in the northern Afar state of the country.

The Afar State Government Communications Office stated that 24 civilians, including 107 children, were killed in the Tigray Liberation Front’s shelling.

A few weeks of military confrontation took place at the junction of Tigray and Afar states in northern Ethiopia. The Tigray Liberation Front penetrated 4 areas in Afar state, causing the displacement of about 100,000 people.

Peaceful march

At the same time, a peaceful demonstration took place in the Ethiopian capital on Sunday. People walked through various blocks and finally stopped at the Revolution Square in the center of the city to express their support for the National Army and condemned what they called the illegal activities of the Tigray Liberation Front.

In this case, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday recalled the ambassador to Ethiopia Jamal Sheikh for consultations to protest the refusal of Sudan’s remarks by senior Ethiopian officials to help end the conflict in Tigray State.

The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that the statement regarding Sudan’s role in the (Tigray) conflict is that “Ethiopia has crossed the facts in its relations with Sudan and promoted the continuation of unfounded accusations”.

Last Thursday, the Ethiopian Prime Minister’s spokesperson denied that Sudan might mediate in the conflict in northern Tigray, saying that the country’s relations with Sudan are “a bit difficult” and that trust should be the basis of any mediation, but trust has been “broken”. , Especially after the “Sudan army invaded Ethiopian territory.”
