LONDON. He was certainly not a prophet at home. Lewis Holden, a 26-year-old Englishman from Oldham, had made a promise to a friend of his: “If England wins the European Football Championships, I will tattoo the cup on my leg with the words” Euro 2020, England’s victory, Football’s coming home “, or” football is coming home “, the traditional chorus of English fans.
But then on Wednesday he changed his mind. After an evening at the pub, in the throes of alcoholic lighting, Holden decided to anticipate the plans. “I get the tattoo right away, before the game,” he decided together with his friend. And so, the next day, there was the tattoo on his leg, as a good omen. “Football’s coming home!”.
Too bad, however, that England lost yesterday in the final against Italy and Holden was overwhelmed by ironies, jokes and hilarity of all kinds, especially from Italian fans. Many have accused him: “Football is coming Rome”. Poor Holden.
