This seminar conducted in-depth exchanges on the experiences and lessons learned and specific practical results of China and Latin America and the Caribbean in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Ecuador’s Ambassador to China Carlos Larrea said in his speech that China has made important achievements in poverty eradication, climate change and global cooperation in the fight against the new crown epidemic. “Ecuador is especially grateful for the vaccine support provided by China. 62% of the total dose of Ecuador’s vaccine comes from China, which is of great significance to Ecuador’s early recovery of the economy, poverty eradication, and improvement of inequality.” He said.
Larrea emphasized that standing at the crossroads of history, the international community should take more effective and specific actions to eliminate poverty and hunger, mitigate the impact of climate change, and achieve sustainable development goals such as gender equality. Ecuador takes a positive attitude towards global sustainable development cooperation.
Guyana’s ambassador to China Zhou Yaxin introduced Guyana’s low-carbon development strategy, new energy development and poverty reduction measures, and pointed out that as a Caribbean country with a limited population, Guyana still faces challenges in achieving sustainable development, especially lack of response to climate challenges Source of funding.
Yuan Dongzhen, deputy director of the Institute of Latin American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development covers three major areas: economy, society, and environment, including 17 goals and 169 specific goals. China and Latin America have a common position in implementing the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. It is recommended to cooperate at the five levels of government, localities, think tanks, enterprises, and society, while taking into account bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Wang Peng, director of the Comprehensive Theory Research Office of the Latin American Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, said that the sustainable development policy framework of China and Latin America has laid the foundation for cooperation between the two parties. Since 2010, China-Latin America’s sustainable development cooperation has achieved fruitful results in many areas, such as clean energy, electric vehicles, agricultural cooperation, environmental protection, and anti-epidemic cooperation. China and Latin America have huge room for cooperation in the field of sustainable development.
Jiang Jinfa, the dean of the Jiangxi Academy of Social Sciences, pointed out that the theory that “green water and green mountains are golden mountains and silver mountains” has profound connotations. The transformation of the “two mountains” theory has made great contributions to poverty alleviation in Jiangxi Province. The experience summarized from the two-way transformation of this theory has important reference significance for China and Latin America to achieve sustainable development.
The two sides also conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on issues such as China’s poverty reduction and rural revitalization, the experience of sustainable development in Latin America, and the areas and paths of China-Latin America sustainable development cooperation.
