by admin

The bishops’ conferences, Eastern Catholic Churches and other church organizations around the world must submit reports on consultations with the people of God to the General Secretariat of the World Bishops’ Conference before August 15, 2022. In view of many requests for more time for listening and dialogue, the Secretariat of the Conference of Bishops made this decision.

(Vatican News Network)The General Secretariat of the World Bishops Conference decided to extend the time at the diocese level for the first phase of the process of the World Bishops Conference, and decided to postpone the end date of the first phase from the original scheduled next April by about four months, that is, to 2022. Deadline on August 15th. The process of the current conference of bishops began in the Vatican from October 9th to 10th this year. The local church has also embarked on a journey on October 17th. The theme is “For a Church Together: Communion, Participation and Mission.”

The General Secretariat of the World Bishops Conference stated in an announcement that the General Secretariat agrees with the numerous letters from the bishops’ conferences and dioceses in the first few weeks about “consulting the people of God” because they show that many people are actively involved in the process in the church. This is indeed an “inspiring affirmation” for the first stage of the first stage and the complete journey towards 2023. The announcement explained that there have been numerous requests from many places, hoping to extend the time of the first phase, so as to “give the people of God more opportunities to live out the experience of real listening and dialogue.”

Therefore, based on the principle that “a church that walks together is a church that listens”, the General Secretariat decided to extend the time limit for the first phase. According to the regulations of the Standing Committee of the Conference of Bishops, the deadline for the submission of consultation reports by the bishops, Catholic Eastern Churches and other church organizations around the world is August 15, 2022.

After the completion of this diocese-level stage, there will also be a stage at the continental and universal level. The diocese-level process has begun in October 2021, and aims to use the tools provided by the General Secretariat of the World Bishops Conference to listen to a wide range of opinions and listen to all the people of God. To this end, every bishop and every bishops’ conference is responsible for starting the process, convening the “pre-conference meeting of the Conference of Bishops”, and then submitting a concise report to the General Secretariat of the Conference of Bishops.
