The Pope chose Father Maggioni to succeed Marini as Archbishop and lead the Vatican’s Eucharist Committee.
(Vatican News Network)Father Corrado Maggioni, 65, was appointed as the chairman of the Committee of the Holy See International Eucharistic Congress. This Italian priest has served in the Holy See for more than 30 years. He entered the Vatican in the 1990s and served in the Ministry of Liturgy and Sacrament of the Holy See. A few years later, in the two thousand years of the Jubilee, Father Maggioni assumed the responsibility of organizing events and was in charge of the Central Committee’s Liturgical Office, especially the evening prayer in St. Peter’s Square. At that time, the pilgrims of the Holy Year gathered around 7pm to pray for the end of the day during the Jubilee. When pilgrims arrive or leave Rome, they will stand and pray for a while at the place where Peter, the Apostle, was martyred.
Fr Maggioni, who received a doctorate in liturgy from the Pontifical St. Anselmer’s School of Liturgy, became the head of the Office of the Holy See’s Liturgy and Sacramental Department in 2007 and was appointed as an advisor to the Pope’s Liturgy Office in 2013. More than a year later, on November 5, 2014, Pope Francis appointed Fr. Maggioni as Deputy Secretary-General of the Ministry of Liturgy and Sacrament of the Holy See. The priest is a member of the Pontifical International College of Notre Dame and teaches in schools such as the Pontifical St. Anselmer’s Liturgical College.
