According to Adriana, she had reminded her brother Edgar countless times that the building they lived in felt unsafe, partly because there were frequent complaints about water leaks and mold.

“About a month ago, I stood on the balcony and said,’It’s not safe here.’ I looked at my niece and said, if you feel the building is shaking, then run quickly,” she said.

After the building collapsed, the city of Miami Beach has declared a state of emergency. The authorities held a press conference on Sunday (June 27) to confirm that so far at least 9 people have died and more than 150 people are missing.
