According to comprehensive media reports, Angela Gonzalez’s family of three lives on the 9th floor of the Chaplain Towers South Building in Surfside. When the building collapsed in the early hours of the 24th, Gonzalez and her 16-year-old daughter Devon instantly fell to the fifth floor with the rubble.
Although Angela suffered multiple fractures and fractured pelvis at the time, her injuries were very serious, but her strong maternal love urged her to endure the severe pain. According to the New York Times, German aunt Adriana (Adriana Gonzalez Chi) went to the hospital to visit German and reported how her niece was rescued by her mother before she fell into a coma.
“She lost consciousness and was buried under the rubble. She beat the metal hard so that others could hear her,” Adriana said. “Her mother must be nearby.”

After the building collapsed, the city of Miami Beach has declared a state of emergency. This building was built in 1981 and is made of reinforced concrete. It is located on the first row of the sea view in Surfside. The roof renovation project was just completed before the building collapsed.
