According to Portuguese media reports on September 10 local time, former Portuguese President Sampaio died in a Lisbon hospital on the 10th local time at the age of 81.
Sampaio has suffered from a variety of heart diseases in recent years, and was admitted to the hospital two weeks ago due to respiratory problems complicated by heart disease.
Sampaio served as President of Portugal from 1996 to 2006. He won the first round of Portuguese presidential elections in 1996 and was re-elected as President in 2001.
