PARIS – Once it was the capital of lace making, today Calais is above all a place suspended between misery, violence and despair. Overlooking the English Channel, the northern city is counting the victims. A migrant died on Thursday and three others were injured when crossing the railway tracks. A few hours earlier the body of a man had been found in a beached boat, with two other people hospitalized in a state of severe hypothermia.
