Airstrikes hit Palestinian militants’ sites in Gaza after the launch of incendiary balloons left the Palestinian enclave. This was reported by Hamas security sources, who speak of an attack on training sites. No injuries were reported.

Yesterday, Israeli firefighters said firing balloons from Gaza caused four minor fires in the southern region of Eshkol, on the border with Gaza. The fires were “small and harmless” and were quickly quenched, a fire brigade note reported.
“The army – said the Israeli Defense spokesman – will respond with determination to all terrorist attacks arriving from the Strip”.
The Palestinians said the balloons wanted to put pressure on Israel to ease restrictions on the coastal enclave, which were tightened during the fighting in May. The launches had tapered off after Israel eased some restrictions on Gaza last week. But on Thursday they were re-launched, causing at least four fires near Israeli cities along the border.

“In response to the balloon’s arson attack on Israeli territory, IDF (Israeli army) fighters today hit a weapons production site belonging to Hamas,” the military said in a statement. There were no immediate comments from Hamas.
Egypt and the United Nations have stepped up mediation efforts for Israeli attacks and ballooning in Gaza, although the incidents have not led to a major escalation.
