(LaPresse) At least 150,000 people gathered outside the German Parliament on Saturday afternoon to protest against the far right, the latest in a series of large weekend demonstrations across Germany. The pro-democracy marches began three weeks ago after the investigative journalism group Correctiv published an article alleging that members of the far right had recently met to discuss the deportation of millions of immigrants, including some with German citizenship; some members of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party were present at the meeting. Saturday’s protest in Berlin attracted more participants than organizers expected, despite intermittent rain. Similar protests against the far right in other German cities, including the southern city of Freiburg and the western city of Hanover, attracted thousands of participants today. (LaPresse)
