BERLIN: For the first time, Germany has exceeded the threshold of one million vaccinations carried out in a single day. This was announced in Berlin by German Health Minister Jens Spahn. “These are two records,” said Spahn, “for the first time we vaccinated over 1% of the population in one day, as well as the administration of over a million doses”. In this way, the head of the Health Department explained, “over one in four Germans have been vaccinated at least once”. This is 25.9% of the population, while 7.5% of Germans have also obtained the second dose of anti-Covid serum. In essence, added Spahn, on Wednesday in the offices of family doctors a total of 730 thousand doses were administered, while in the Laender vaccination centers about 360 thousand vaccinations were carried out. “This shows how much we gain in acceleration in the vaccination campaign,” reiterated the minister. Spahn also addressed the issue of vaccination of children, after the announcement of the founder of BioNTech, Ugur Sahin, according to which children from 12 years onwards will be able to have an anti-Covid administration as early as June if the authorization of the Ema. “In this case, minors of this age group will be able to have a first immunization at the latest during the summer holidays,” said the minister. According to Spiegel, the application for authorization will be forwarded to the European Medicines Agency next Wednesday.
