At least 17 people were killed, and another 57 injured, in the explosion of a truck carrying dynamite to a mine in Ghana.
The very serious accident, which occurred when the vehicle, which was transporting the explosives to a mine in the Chirano region, collided with a motorcycle, was confirmed on Twitter by the president of the African country, Nana Akufo-Addo. Communicating his condolences to the families of the victims for “the tragic accident”, the president said that “the police, the armed forces, civil protection are coordinating efforts to manage the situation and bring aid to the residents of the city”.
The Ghanaian police also used social media to warn the population of the emergency, urging them to “leave the surrounding towns for safety, while the rescue operations proceed”. It is feared that the final toll of the explosion, which caused several damages with damaged buildings and destroyed cars, is of dozens of deaths.
