Google’s appeal was rejected and still faces EU antitrust fines of 2.42 billion euros
Xinhua News Agency, Brussels, November 10. The European Union’s Permanent Court rejected the appeal of Google of the United States on the 10th and supported the European Commission in imposing an antitrust fine of 2.42 billion euros.
In June 2017, the European Commission made a ruling on the “Google Shopping” antitrust case and imposed a fine of the above amount on Google on the grounds that the company abused its dominant position in the search engine market. Google subsequently appealed to the Permanent Court of the European Union.
The main reason for the decision of the Permanent Court of the European Union to reject the appeal was to find that Google still uses unfair methods to guide users to use their own shopping services. The Permanent Court of the European Union held that Google’s move violated the principle of fair competition.
According to relevant regulations, Google can still appeal to the higher-level European Court of Justice.
