Greece’s Health Minister Vasilis Kikilias said on the 26th that Greece has launched a new crown vaccination process for people aged 12 to 15 this week.

Kikilias said at a press conference that the vaccination appointment is scheduled to start on the 30th. Parents can go to citizen service centers, pharmacies or log in to relevant websites to make an appointment for their children, and then accompany their children to the vaccination point.

According to Reuters, the vaccines for this age group include the new crown vaccine jointly developed by Pfizer and the German Biotech Company and the vaccine produced by Modena in the United States. Both vaccines are messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines and require two doses.

Maria Theodoridou, head of the Greek Vaccination Committee, said that the number of new coronavirus infections among children and adolescents in Greece has increased significantly recently, and continued infection of this population may lead to new variants of the new coronavirus. Theodoridou said that expanding the scope of vaccination to young people will help protect the low-age population and their families, while preparing for the children to return to school in September.

To encourage people to get vaccinated, the Greek government has taken a number of measures, such as cash rewards, free mobile traffic to young people, etc., with a view to increasing the vaccination rate to 70% by the fall. Data show that as of the 26th of this month, 53.4% of the Greek population has completed at least one dose of vaccination, and about 46.8% have completed the entire vaccination.
