ROME. Two American naval units fired warning shots in the Persian Gulf when they were approached by three fast attack patrol boats of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards: this was revealed by the US Navy quoted by various media, including CNN. The three patrol boats, spokeswoman Rebecca Rebarich said, despite warnings and reports, approached less than 68 yards (just over 60 meters) from the patrol ship Uss Firebolt of the US Navy and the Baranoff of the American Coast Guard. A series of cannon shots were fired in warning air and Iranian fast boats moved away at a safe distance, said the spokeswoman, who recalls how this is the second such episode in a few weeks. The same had in fact happened on 2 April, when US patrol ships were approached in the waters of the Gulf by patrol boats and a support ship, also belonging to the Iranian Pasdaran.
