One person has died and at least 12 others are missing off the coast of Louisiana after a commercial ship capsized in the Gulf of Mexico. This was reported by the US Coast Guard.
Coast Guard ships and a fleet of volunteer boats are looking for survivors after Seacor Power capsized during a storm near Port Fourchon, about 100 miles south of New Orleans.
Coast Guard Captain Will Watson said he received a distress call from the ship shortly before 4:30 pm on Tuesday. “We saved six survivors” of the crew of 19, Watson said at a news conference.
Initially, the Coast Guard had 18 people on board, the lifeless body of a seventh person was found, he said, while “efforts continue to search for another 12 missing”.
