Gulf Sky, a ghost ship in the Persian Gulf “So Iran hijacked our tanker”

In July 2020, the “Gulf Sky” oil tanker disappeared from the waters of the Persian Gulf off the coast of the United Arab Emirates, along with its crew. A few days later the freighter reappeared in Iran, where it would currently be used as a “ghost ship”, used by the Iranian government as an oil depot to be transferred in violation of sanctions.

For the first time, eight former Gulf Sky crew members spoke to the BBC about the ship’s disappearance, claiming they were hijacked by a group of gunmen.
