Clouds of smoke rise from Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley as Israeli airstrikes target Hezbollah members

Sources in Lebanon have reported that Israeli airstrikes in the Bekaa Valley have resulted in the deaths of at least two Hezbollah members. In response, the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah announced that it has launched 60 rockets at an Israeli Army barracks.

The attack on the Bekaa Valley, an important stronghold of Hezbollah in eastern Lebanon, is the first of its kind during the current confrontations between the two groups. Israeli aircraft had bombed two different points near the town of Baalbek earlier this morning, prompting Hezbollah to retaliate with rocket attacks.

A source close to Hezbollah confirmed that at least two people died as a result of the airstrikes, while the group later announced the death of two of its members from the Bekaa Valley. The Israeli Army claimed that its airstrikes targeted Hezbollah’s air defense bases in response to a surface-to-air missile launched against an Israeli drone in southern Lebanon.

The situation on the border between Israel and Lebanon is increasingly tense, with both sides engaged in a fierce exchange of fire. The clashes, the worst since the war between the two parties in 2006, have intensified in recent weeks with major attacks reported on both sides.

The United States and the European Union have called for a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, while the United States vetoed a ceasefire proposal in Gaza presented by Algeria in the UN Security Council. The border between Israel and Lebanon is experiencing its highest peak of tension since 2006, with casualties reported on both sides.

Israel had previously carried out selective bombings in areas far from the border, including one that killed a senior leader of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas last January. The recent airstrikes in the Bekaa Valley mark a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah.
