TIRANA – It is head to head in Albania between the premier’s socialist party Edi Rama and the opposition made up of the coalition led by the Democratic Party (Pd) of Lulzim Basha (center-right) and the Socialist Movement for Integration (LSI). Two different exit polls – one conducted by the Italian Institute Noto polls for OraNews TV and the other by Albanin Post for Top Channel – give Rama to 46%, the Pd to 44% and Lsi to 5%, with a margin of error by at least 2 points. We vote to elect the new National Assembly. However, the regional proportional system does not allow these results to be immediately translated into a precise number of seats and therefore the game is still open.

During the election campaign, Rama said he was sure of his clear confirmation for the third term, and in the evening he appeared in front of the media to reassure his own. “The exit polls offer various arguments relating to a game that is still open – he said -. The final result will be that of the polls”, said Rama, specifying that “however, even the exit polls confirm us as a governing force”. Of the 140 seats that make up the Albanian parliament, the PS, according to the exit polls, including another conducted by the Mrb Institute, part of the Kantar group, for Euronews Albania, could win between 68 and 72.

Before the vote, Rama repeatedly remarked that if the socialists did not obtain an absolute majority, he would leave the government: “I will withdraw – he said during the electoral campaign -. I do not intend to negotiate just to remain in power”.
