In just a year, the MNM trio all left PSG

Kylian Mbappe will leave Paris Saint Germain end of this season. The departure of the 25 year old striker will make the story of his greatness with Lionel Messi and Neymar truly a distant memory.

During 2021-2023, the Mbappe-Neymar-Messi trio will be one to watch out for on the field. The goals poured in. In the first season, they contributed 63 goals. Then in the following season, the three scored 80 goals.

However, this abundant number of goals only resulted in two French League titles. Yes, PSG are only domestic kings, a status they have held since before the three arrived. Their real target is to bring Les Parisiens to Champions League glory.

That’s the main goal of the three of them combined, along with a row of other stars. Moreover, Messi and Neymar have already become champions when they were still in Barcelona uniforms. What can I say, what happened was far from expectations.

During those two seasons, PSG always failed in the round of 16. First from Real Madrid in the 2021-22 season, then Bayern Munich a year later. A strategy that has proven ineffective in Europe.

Not to mention a series of problems off the field that haunt us, such as an unhealthy dressing room and players’ egos that are too high. In the end, PSG management could no longer maintain this.

Messi, who was still great but was old, was finally released in the summer of 2023 because PSG chose to build a young team. Neymar, who is still fertile but prone to injury and does not get along with supporters, was sold expensively to Saudi Arabia in the same period.

That leaves Mbappe. He also almost left last season because he refused to extend his contract, and was even suspended, but ultimately decided against leaving after Neymar moved. Even so, Mbappe only lasted a short time.

The Athletic and Sky Sports reported that on Thursday (15/2/2024) Mbappe met with PSG President Nasser Al Khelaifi to discuss this matter. This is indeed the agreement between the two. If he wants to withdraw, Mbappe must report to Khelaifi first.

Now, both parties are negotiating about how to leave Mbappe from the club, whether it’s for a certain fee or the player has to give up a few percent of his salary. He is currently paid 200 million Euros per season.

Mbappe is currently able to negotiate with other clubs, because his contract at PSG will expire in June. Real Madrid is said to be recruiting him.
