Incendiary balloons from Gaza on Israel launching airstrike

by admin

Israel has launched a series of air strikes against Gaza after fire balloons launched from the Strip caused fires in the country.
The action comes after last weekend’s border clashes, where dozens of people were injured.
There were no casualties in the raid on the affected cities, Gaza City, Khan Younes and Jabalia, but they caused material damage, Palestinian security sources said. Hamas anti-aircraft guns went into action, the source added, without providing further details.

Incendiary balloons are commonly used by Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip, which has been under a tight Israeli blockade since Hamas took power in 2007. Israeli firefighters said they are working to contain several fires in the Eshkol border area, where at least nine fire balloons from Gaza have arrived. The Israeli military, however, contacted by AFP, refused to comment on the response action.

In a statement, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that fighters attacked “a Hamas weapons production site in Khan Yunis and the entrance to a terror tunnel in Jabalia”.
“An underground Hamas rocket launch site located near civilian homes and a school in Shejaiya was also hit”, it was added, stating that “the attacks were a response to Hamas’ fireballs in Israeli territory “.
