New Delhi, the capital of India, encountered high temperature weather on the 15th, with temperatures exceeding 49 degrees Celsius in some areas, 5 degrees Celsius higher than the average temperature of the same period in the past. According to the information released by the Indian Meteorological Department on the 15th, that day, the temperature in two areas of New Delhi reached 49.1 degrees Celsius and 49.2 degrees Celsius respectively, and the lowest temperature area also reached 45.5 degrees Celsius. In addition, the temperature of Gurgaon in the northern Indian state of Haryana also reached 48.1 degrees Celsius that day, the highest temperature for the same period since May 1966.

The Indian Meteorological Department forecast on the 15th that the cyclone circulation from Punjab and Haryana will bring rainfall to the New Delhi area on the 16th, and the high temperature weather will be eased by then.

New Delhi has experienced a rare dry and hot weather this year, with only 0.3 mm of rain falling throughout April, compared with an average of 12.2 mm in previous April. In addition, the New Delhi area received zero rainfall in March this year, but the average rainfall for the same period in previous years was 15.9 mm. The drought also brought unusually high temperatures, with New Delhi’s April average temperature hitting its second-highest record since 1951 at 40.2 degrees Celsius.
