BANGKOK – All detainees were asleep when flames and smoke engulfed a ward of the large and overcrowded Indonesian prison of Tangerang in the Banten district of the capital Jakarta. No one was able to prevent a massacre caused according to the first hypotheses still not confirmed by a short circuit that triggered the fire in block C2 at around 2 am, where 122 people accused mainly of drug offenses lived in 19 cells.
