Indonesia: presidential elections, the former general has a clear lead – News

(ANSA-AFP) – JAKARTA, FEBRUARY 14 – The favored Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto has a large advantage in the presidential elections in Indonesia, despite a very controversial past as a former general accused of human rights violations under Suharto’s dictatorship in the end of the 90s.

With around 60% of the sample’s votes counted in so-called “rapid counts,” which have proven reliable in the past, two independent pollsters had Subianto with more than 55% of the vote, which would be enough to avoid a runoff. Official results are expected next month. (ANSA-AFP).
