Inter Miami is ‘taken apart’ – but Lionel Messi saves a point

Superstar Lionel Messi scored his first goal in the second game of the season for Inter Miami in the North American professional soccer league MLS. The Argentine world champion saved his team from a 1-1 (0-0) draw at Los Angeles Galaxy with his goal in stoppage time (90+2).

The home team dominated the game, but Riqui Puig (13th) failed with a penalty given by Sergio Busquets to Inter goalkeeper Drake Callender. The former Frankfurt player Dejan Joveljic (75th) still managed to take the lead. In the final phase, Los Angeles was outnumbered after the yellow-red card against Marco Delgado (87th) – and Messi struck after a combination with Jordi Alba.

Apart from his goal, the “eternal” world footballer showed a rather weak performance. In general, with seven players over 30 in the starting line-up, Miami had difficulty keeping up with the opponent’s pace. In addition to Messi, Alba and Busquets, Luis Suarez was also in the starting line-up.

“We were torn apart in the first half, we could have gone into the dressing room one goal behind,” said Inter coach Gerardo Martino. “After conceding the goal we showed character,” he added.

Miami won its opening game 2-0 against Real Salt Lake. Messi provided the assist for the lead.
