The board of the International Monetary Fund expresses full confidence in the general manager Kristalina Georgieva, in her leadership and in her ability to continue to carry out her duties.
The board explains that the reported information did not conclusively prove that Georgieva played a role in the ‘Doing Business‘ report when she was at the World Bank. According to an internal investigation by the World Bank, Georgieva would have played a role in favoring China in the Doing Business 2018 report.
IMF, general director Georgieva accused: “He favored China at the World Bank”
by Eugenio Occorsio
The leading bodies of the international institution considered that the information gathered during the investigation did not allow to attribute “an inappropriate role” to the Bulgarian economist. Georgieva immediately welcomed the decision, declaring that the allegations against her were “unfounded”
For US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, the World Bank’s internal investigation raises legitimate doubts and concerns but does not represent a basis for a change in leadership within the IMF.
