DONETSK – Denis Pushilin is the president of the self-proclaimed pro-Russian Republic of Donetsk. Forty-one years old, he took office in 2018 after the assassination of his predecessor Alexandr Zacharchenko. He is wanted by the Ukrainian authorities for separatism, high treason and terrorism. Since 2021 he has been a member of the Russian ruling United Russia party, to which Vladimir Putin also belongs. We interviewed him in one of the self-proclaimed government buildings in downtown Donetsk.
