Iran requires the United States to withdraw from the nuclear agreement in the future must be approved by the UN | Iran News | Al Jazeera

The Wall Street Journal reported that Iran’s latest requirement in the current nuclear agreement negotiations is that the United States must agree to a clause so that it must obtain UN approval before withdrawing from this possible agreement in the future. The media believes that this is an unachievable requirement.

The media pointed out in an editorial that Iran believes this is an inevitable requirement because former US President Donald Trump unilaterally let the United States withdraw from the Iran nuclear agreement signed in 2015.

The newspaper commented that Iran does not care, and this is an unconstitutional provision, “because the President of the United States cannot prevent Congress or future presidents from changing current policies, especially when the nuclear agreement is not submitted to the Senate for approval as a treaty. In addition, most treaties also contain clauses that allow withdrawal under certain conditions.”

Breach the presidential oath

The report added, “But US President Joe Biden, like former President Barack Obama, will not submit his agreement to the Senate for voting because he knows that he is unlikely to easily get a majority of votes. Not to mention that to obtain the two-thirds majority required to ratify the treaty, and to allow the United Nations to have influence over the U.S. Congress in its foreign policy would be a flagrant violation of the president’s oath.”

The Wall Street Journal accused the Biden administration of “persisting in continuing its mistakes” and continuing negotiations, although Iran has continuously shortened its path to nuclear weapons by banning the entry of international inspectors and activating advanced centrifuge equipment. Because these measures will increase Iran’s inventory of uranium and help it acquire relevant scientific knowledge.

Trump’s strategy has not yet been realized

The report also pointed out that abandoning negotiations would mean returning to the “extreme pressure” campaign initiated by Trump that year. Officials in the Biden administration criticized this and added that Trump, who only won a term of office, criticized it. The government has never had the opportunity to fully implement this strategy.

The Wall Street Journal called on the Biden administration to increase pressure on the Iranian regime and not to leave it any way out, saying that the deadly protests are turbulent in the southwestern region of Iran.

The report concluded at the end, “So far, the United States intends to give up the powerful influence of sanctions in order to restore the nuclear agreement signed in 2015, but Iran’s negotiators are going further and further on the path of excess.”
