The preliminary motion presented by the Israeli government to dissolve the Knesset and bring the country back to elections, the fifth in less than four years, was approved by a very large majority. The text now passes to the Internal Commission, led by Yamina’s dissident Nir Orbach, who would be opposed to returning to the polls and instead would prefer to see the birth of an alternative executive.
The process of dissolving the Knesset requires four separate votes and two reviews by the committees: the final vote is expected no earlier than the beginning of next week.
