Israel has released a video in which it claims Yahya Sinwar, head of Hamas in the Gaza Strip, is seen in a tunnel under Khan Yunis

On Tuesday, the Israeli army released a video in which it claims to see Yahya Sinwar, the Hamas leader inside the Gaza Strip who Israel considers one of the main perpetrators of the October 7 attack on civilians. Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagari said the video dates back to October 10 and shows Sinwar in a tunnel under Khan Yunis – the largest city in the southern Gaza Strip – fleeing with one of his wives and their his children.

The video, according to Hagari, was made by a closed-circuit camera and the Israeli army came into possession of it in recent days, after invading Khan Yunis. At the moment no international newspaper has been able to independently verify that what is seen in the video is indeed Sinwar, nor when it was actually recorded, and the Israeli army has provided no further evidence to support its claims. Sinwar is still wanted by Israel: in December the Israeli army surrounded his house in Khan Yunis but had not found him.
