Italian couple in India to take their adopted child: “Take us home, here people are dying on the ground”

Simonetta Filippini and her husband Enzo Galli left 15 days ago for India. Not for tourism but to fetch the two-year-old girl they had adopted. The couple is from Campi Bisenzio, Florence and on April 19 they arrived at New Delhi airport along with 70 other Italians. The adoption procedures had run their course and everything was going well but unfortunately last Wednesday at the time of embarking to return to Italy, Simonetta tested positive for Covid and was hospitalized first in the hospital, then at the Holy Family Hospital in New Delhi, while the spouse together with the small stationed in the hotel waiting for the situation to break free.

The woman told of a very serious situation around her: «In the first hospital I was in a two-meter room with seven other people and some died before my eyes. There were people on stretchers, others ventilated on the ground at the end of their lives, in unimaginable hygienic conditions ».

Simonetta and her husband Enzo therefore ask that a medical flight be prepared without waiting any longer. “We are seventy Italian families in India and all of them are infected. I know it’s not easy and the Embassy and the consul are really doing everything possible, I know they work a lot, but we want to get out of here ».
