The two young men arrested in Sheffield for the murder of the 34-year-old from Puglia Carlo Giannini, carried out on the night between 11 and 12 May last, are 17 and 18 years old. The man’s body was found by a passerby at 5am last Thursday in Manor Fields Park.

The turning point in the investigation, a few days after the pizza chef’s death, took place on Wednesday evening with the first official communications from the South Yorkshire Police, relating to the arrest of an 18-year-old, later released on bail. A few hours later the same British investigators provided other elements on the story, talking about the involvement in the murder of a 17-year-old, also arrested. In the last few hours, the English police have again released the images of Giannini.

The victim is inside the park. It is around 11 pm on May 11th. Man is alive. The crime will only be discovered at dawn. Hence the further appeal of the Sheffield police to those who may have seen or perceived something in relation to the death of Carlo Giannini, who according to what emerged from the autopsy would have been stabbed. On the motive still few certainties provided by the English investigators, in contact at this time also with the Italian police authorities, who continue in the search for possible witnesses of what happened between 11 and 12 May in Manor Fields Park.

In Sheffield, after the official recognition of the body, the brother and sister-in-law of the victim, Stefano and Valentina, are found, also for the handling of all the bureaucratic procedures before the repatriation of the body to Italy. In Mesagne, the victim’s city of origin, a feeling of pain and agony accompanies the hours of waiting for the coffin to return.

The parents and the sister of the 34-year-old who had left Puglia for years now live in the city of Brindisi. Giannini first had a work experience in Northern Europe, then in 2020 he opened a pizzeria in Germany, in Titisee-Neustadtm, near the Black Forest, with his brother and sister-in-law: “La Spiga D’Oro”.

A few months ago, however, the choice to reach England, and in particular the city of Sheffield. Here he worked in a pizzeria located about five kilometers from the park where he was killed.
