The DHL Group has expanded its fleet with 178 new IVECO S-Way CNG for its postal and parcel division in Germany, exceeding 450 CNG trucks. The new bioCNG-powered vehicles will further reduce DHL Group’s carbon footprint and significantly contribute to the decarbonisation of road transport.

Among those ordered, 161 IVECO S-Way CNG in the AD190S34/P CNG van version will be used for short distances and daily trips. The vehicles feature a standard 4×2 chassis with a gross vehicle mass of 19 tonnes, a standard Active Day cab with a low roof and a 9-litre CNG engine, capable of producing 340 hp and compliant with Euro VI regulations. Four gas tanks with a gravimetric filling volume of 80 kg per side are installed on both sides. With a total of 160 kg of CNG, the trucks offer a range of up to 670 km.

The other 17 IVECO S-Way CNG are equipped with an AS260S46Y/FS CM CNG mobile skip chassis and will be used for transport between the hubs. These vehicles feature a standard 6×2 chassis with steering trailed axle, the spacious Active Space cab and a 13-litre CNG engine, capable of producing 460 HP and compliant with Euro VI regulations. The CNG tanks have an overall gravimetric filling volume of 240 kg, which allows ranges of up to 1000 km.

BioCNG is a sustainable fuel obtained from renewable sources, such as waste and residual materials. By using bioCNG, DHL will significantly reduce its CO2 emissions by up to 95 percent compared to diesel vehicles – and will even be able to achieve a negative carbon footprint of -120%, if the bioCNG is obtained from manure.

In addition to long-range missions, the silence of the bioCNG engines mounted on IVECO trucks compared to traditional internal combustion engines makes these vehicles particularly suitable for urban applications and night deliveries, while improving driver comfort.
