Japan: 5.9 magnitude earthquake in the north-east of the country

A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Japan earlier today, injuring three people but without causing extensive damage, and without triggering a tsunami warning. According to the Japanese Meteorological Agency, the quake occurred at 2.46 local time in the prefecture of Aomori, with its epicenter in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of about 56 kilometers.
