Japan: Prime Minister at the G20 in Rome

by admin

Official confirmation arrives: Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida, who will take up the position of head of government today, will be present at the G20 summit scheduled in Rome on 30 and 31 October.

Kishida, on the other hand, is considering not taking part in the upcoming UN climate talks, which will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, on October 31st. The Japanese government is reportedly working on a meeting between Kishida and US President Joe Biden right on the sidelines of the G20. The international commitments of the Japanese premier could affect the timing of the campaign for the next general elections in Japan: the Japanese premier intends to dissolve the lower house of the diet on October 14 and return the country to the polls on November 7. A hypothesis circulated in the past few hours is instead a postponement of the elections to November 14th, with a consequent start of the electoral campaign on November 2nd.
