[Global Times Comprehensive Report]According to a report by Japan’s Hokkaido Shimbun on the 13th, the Japanese ruling Liberal Democratic Party and Komeito Party’s plan to grant 100,000 yen (approximately 5,600 yuan) subsidies to minors under the age of 18 has caused considerable controversy. . Although the ruling party has put forward certain restrictions on the subsidies, many people still think that this move is “spending money.”
A joint poll conducted by Nihon Keizai Shimbun and TV TOKYO shows that 67% of the respondents believe that this move is “not helpful” in stimulating consumption. So far, the granting of subsidies has been criticized as “spending money” in Japan. In 2009, the Japanese government issued a “fixed subsidy” of 12,000 yen to each citizen. In the spring of 2021, the Japanese government will provide everyone with a “special fixed subsidy” of 100,000 yen. However, according to the estimation of the Japanese Cabinet, the subsidy policy implemented in 2009 did not help much to boost consumption, and the amount of public consumption only accounted for 32.8% of the total amount of disbursement. Most people would choose to deposit their money in the bank, which did not achieve the expected effect of stimulating consumption.
Hideo Kumano, chief economist of Japan’s Daiichi Institute of Life Economy, believes: “Whether it is an economic countermeasure or a countermeasure against declining birthrates, there are doubts about this move. To dispel doubts from all walks of life, (the Japanese government) needs to make a clear statement.” (Fang Qing )Return to Sohu to see more
