Tottenham Hotspur have to swallow the bitter pill when defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at home. João Gomes scored the Wolf Team’s winning goal.

At the match Premier League week 25 at Tottenham Hotspur stadium, Saturday (17/2/2024) evening WIB, Tottenham received a threat from Wolves in the seventh minute when Nelson Semedo received Pablo Sarabia’s pass, but his shot was saved by Guglielmo Vicario.

However, it was Wolves who closed the first half with a 1-0 lead through Joao Gomes’ goal in the 42nd minute. Gomes headed Sarabia’s cross in the penalty box and Vicario was unable to block it.

A minute after the break, Tottenham equalized the score 1-1 through Dejan Kulusevski. Tottenham built an attack from the right side and Kulusevski played a 1-2 pass with Richarlison.

Kulusevski entered the penalty box, passed Craig Dawson’s challenge before shooting into the narrow corner of Jose Sa’s goal.

In the 56th minute, Wolves almost added another goal if Vicario had not parried Sarabia’s shot.

Four minutes later it was Jose Sa’s turn to make the save. Kulusevski ended the counterattack with a first-time shot that sent the ball into the left corner, but Jose Sa was able to parry it.

Wolves then restored their lead in the 63rd minute. Starting from Tottenham’s failed set piece, the ball was then taken by Pedro Neto who made a solo run to the wide side of the penalty box.

Neto sent a cross which was completed by Joao Gomes’ hard kick into the top right corner of Vicario’s goal.

Wolves almost got a third goal in the 79th minute if Jeanricner Bellegarde’s shot was not blocked by Emerson Royal.

Tottenham had a golden opportunity at the end of the match to equalize the score, if Ben Davies’ header had not gone sideways. The 2-1 score remained for Wolverhampton’s victory.

This result brought Wolverhampton up to 10th position with 35 points from 25 matches. Totteham, who suffered their first defeat in their last six matches, is now stuck in fifth position with 47 points.
