It is reported that riots in various parts of the country have caused 164 deaths, thousands of people were injured, and direct economic losses exceeded 200 million U.S. dollars.
According to the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan, as of the 9th local time, riots have caused 164 deaths in the past week. Kazakhstan’s child rights plenipotentiary, Arujan Sain, revealed that three children and adolescents were killed in the riots. According to Kazakh official news earlier, the government previously announced that the number of civilians killed was 26, at least 18 law enforcement personnel were killed, and more than 1,300 armed forces and National Guard personnel were injured.
According to official statistics, armed attacks have caused serious damage to social order, and the direct economic losses caused by armed rioters and lawless elements to Kazakh citizens have exceeded 92 billion tenge (approximately US$200 million).
Kazakh President Tokayev signed a presidential decree a few days ago, declaring the 10th as a national day of mourning.
It is also reported that the Collective Security Treaty Organization (Jiang Organization) will hold a video summit of leaders of member states on the situation in Kazakhstan. In an interview with the “Khabar 24” news channel, Kazakh President Press Secretary Bezek Vari said that Kazakh President Tokayev will attend the meeting on the 10th and inform the leaders of the Ji’an member states of the current situation in Kazakhstan.
